An entrepreneurial spirit and drive yields good results
Joy, his wife and their three young children live in a small village on the outskirts of Battambang City. For poor families like Joy's, every day is often a matter of survival. Their main focus will be to put food on the table, to ensure for their daughters' education and to find creative ways to get by with what they have.

The first time we visited the family, we especially noticed their positive
attitude towards life and their eagerness to create a better life for themselves.
We learned that Joy and his wife were already involved in growing various vegetables around their house and on a small piece of land belonging to his parents. Some of these vegetables are sold at the market and along the roadside to make some money. Joy and his wife dream that one day they would have the funds to develop this enterprise further.

Together with the Stilt House coordinator, Joy has also discussed plans to
expand their business by raising grasshoppers. This can be sold at the market as a delicacy at a good price. With support from the Stilt House, Joy was able to purchase both building materials and the first batches of grasshoppers. This has enabled him to further increase his earnings and better secure his family's finances.
The Stilt House works to release every family's potential to lift themselves out of poverty. We give them the tools, knowledge and follow-up needed to become self-sufficient and resilient.
